"Demon Doors" in Kynseed
Yow.
After Matt made clear at discord that you are flirting with the idea of adding sorta demon doors to the game (Twitter), it was literally brewing in my head. :)
I think I finally have a nice idea to offer.
Since you are going to make a game filled with "a mix of British folklore, ancient legend, and rustic traditions" and also accentuate it with celtic-ish UI-elements, you could also make use of the Celts in this case.
The Celts were very fond of the nature, as you may know.
Long story short: They had special spots where special trees where "living", (some of them are still to find here and there, the oldest ones are in GB, yew-tree's up to 4000 years old) and it was not permitted to cut them off, therefor they had "comercial"forests. Anyway.
Just think of hidden spots spreaded around Quill were really old trees are living. They may talk to you or throw their fruits to make you recognize, heh. I think you get the idea...
Cheers

Been interesting seeing some of the replies over on Twitter as well.
Neat idea about the trees though. But yeah, as Charlie says, trees are already playing so many roles in the game as it is. Definitely interested to hear more ideas from people though!

Or are they used for something else? Another idea would be wishing wells. Or is another idea already settled?

There will be Faerie rings in the game, and they will have a use.
We don't have wishing wells but wishing ponds on the other hand...

I got to make a lot of them, and I enjoyed using existing assets in creative ways to make weird and wonderful little places.
Faves have got to be Last Orders, Cartographilia, Terry Cotters Army and Planet One (took 1 hour to make).
